Komstudy
This short study program, organised by the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies, runs over November and December of each year. Students participate in a Japanese language course at Komazawa University in Tokyo and take part in informal cultural studies.
Komstudy is a particularly good program for students who have not spent significant time in Japan to find their feet , enjoy using Japanese to form friendships with the Komazawa students, and start planning further Japan experiences.
This is a self funded program and students enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts degree or a BA/parallel degree are eligible for #2 of academic credit towards their BA after successful completion of the Komazawa Japanese course.
Planning for Study in Japan
Mrs Kayoko Uchiyama is the coordinator for the Japan Exchange Program and Komstudy. Mrs Uchiyama conducts information sessions on these programs around March and April of each year. Students are advised of these via their Japanese language class teachers.
Students usually complete long term exchanges during their third year of study at UQ. However, to do this, applications are due at the beginning of May of the previous year. Students, therefore, need to plan ahead in applying for and organising an exchange and rescheduling the courses in their degree if this is necessary. Mrs Uchiyama is familiar with all UQs exchange universities in Japan and is able to discuss with students which institution would best suit their interests, experience and aspirations.
