Students can choose to

  • complete one (or more) of the many  majors or extended majors offered by our School, 
  • do one or more elective courses as part of the BA or other degree,
  • or enrol through the Community Access Program, which is available to students not enrolled in a degree program

How to study a language at UQ

Languages are available to undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in a variety of degrees at UQ and to students who are not enrolled at UQ.

Asian Studies

These courses are taught in English and can be taken as electives or as part of the Asian Studies major.

Chinese

China is an increasingly important player in international economics and politics. Introductory to advanced level courses are available.

Cultural Studies

These courses are taught in English. They can be taken as electives or as part of some majors or extended majors.

French

German

German is one of the ten most widely spoken languages on earth. Courses are available from beginners through to advanced level.

Indonesian

Indonesian is the seventh most widely spoken language in the world. courses are available from beginners to advanced level.

Italian

UQ students can cross-enrol to study Italian at Griffith University. First and second year Italian are available at St Lucia campus.

Japanese

Courses are available from beginners through to advanced level.

Korean

Courses are available from introductory to advanced level.

Linguistics

Linguistics is the study of human language; how it is structured, how it is acquired, and how it is used.
